Larkin Schmiedl is a freelance journalist, writer, editor, photographer and videographer living and working on Salt Spring Island, B.C., located on unceded Coast Salish territory in the country commonly known as Canada.

His areas of interest and expertise include sustainable food systems, LGBTQ issues and transgender advocacy, and a number of wider environmental and social justice concerns.

He freelances to various publications, has served as LGBTI contributing editor with rabble.ca, and hosted a weekly radio show, Gaydio, for two years on CFBX 92.5 FM in Kamloops.

His work has been published in the Kamloops Daily News, where he worked on staff; regularly in This Magazine, OutWords LGBTQ magazine (Winnipeg), on rabble.ca, and in Bridges alumni magazine; as well as in BC Organic Grower magazine, Beef in BC magazine, the Vancouver Courier, SnoRiders magazine (Cranbrook), Kamloops Business magazine, Kamloops Currents magazine, Kamloops-based Indo-Canadian newspaper Insight, Kamloops Kibble magazine, Kamloops this Week newspaper; and in The Omega student newspaper, where he served as staff copy editor.

He welcomes suggestions, feedback and ideas about what you’d like to see covered in the media.
